Iron Ocean Series

Our sport forms a significant component of who we are as an organisation. From nipper to elite Ironman and Ironwoman, all our members have the opportunity to participate in local, state, national and international surf sports competitions. Unlike other sports, the purpose of our competitions is to improve lifesaving skills to keep our beaches safe.

The Burnie Iron Ocean Series is an Ironman/Ironwoman/ocean swimming series developed to provide a local platform for junior surf lifesavers keen to experience the thrill, challenge and spectacle of the popular but challenging discipline.

An initiative of the Burnie Surf Life Saving Club, the series is decided over 3 rounds, each round featuring three (3) intense but enjoyable ski, board and swim circuits, followed by a 500m or 1.5km ocean swim.
